Newcastle has a well-earned reputation for its nightlife, particularly for student nights. To help you get to know some of the nightlife in Newcastle, we’ve put together a handy guide to the best student nights for every day of the week. If beach party vibes are what you’re after, or somewhere to dance the night away while you enjoy some great deals on drinks, then you’ll love our guide to Newcastle student nights.
Monday: Club Trop at Florita’s Miama Bar
A Monday night out for students is pretty much an institution of Newcastle uni nightlife and you’d do well to start your week in this dimly lit haven. Club Trop is split across two floors and is inspired by all things 1980s in Miami. The live DJs offer up a mix of chart-toppers, R&B, electro, and disco classics, of course. With free entry, you can sip on a range of tropical cocktails in the club’s cosy booths and sofas before you dance the night away.
Tuesday: Waikiki
You can go to the beach every week with Tuesday Waikiki nights. Across four venues – House of Smith, Florita’s, Tropicalia and Madame Koos – you can find the beach vibe that suits you, whether it’s old school hip hop, classic party anthems or pretty much anything in between. Taking inspiration from famed global beach parties like the Full Moon in Thailand, you can expect flower garlands, glow sticks and sometimes, a paint cannon! At just £5 entry, you can also find plenty of sunny deals on drinks including discounted doubles and cocktail buckets.
Wednesday: Dirtiz at Perdu
Newcastle’s biggest mid week student night not only offers up four rooms jam packed with music from a live DJ and a secret garden area, you can also enjoy a totally unique outdoor techno terrace. The Techno Tunnel is your chance to dance under the stars with state-of-the-art lighting to the best beats. Open from 10pm to 3am, tickets are just £6, but get them while you can because one thing’s for certain, Perdu has a reputation for a buzzing atmosphere and getting super busy.
Thursday: Digital
Newcastle’s favourite dance club, Digital, has previously been branded the ‘Fabric of the North’, however on Thursday night it’s home to the biggest rock night in the city. Rebel Thursday is a staple of Newcastle uni nightlife so you’re almost always guaranteed to be stuck in a queue, but once you’re in it will be totally worth it. Whether you like a bit of indie, rock, soul or Motown hits, you can always expect loud music, explosive lighting and a good deal on drinks.
Friday: Think Tank
Newcastle becomes inundated with stag and hen parties on the weekend so many locals advise having a few drinks at home – the VIP bar at Plummer House is a great place to start – then heading to Feral Fridays, Newcastle’s dedicated student night at Think Tank. Located just above Digital nightclub, you’ve got your pick of the best disco, dance and house beats to enjoy well into the early hours and it’s a mere 15-minute walk back to your Northumbria University accommodation.
Saturday: Power House
Powerhouse is the city’s longest-running LGBTQ+ club and is split across two levels with a constant rotation of live DJs. PHUK Super Saturdays is Newcastle’s biggest commercial dance and house party, with a floor dedicated to pop and cheesy hits for good measure. It’s also open until 5am and promises Co2 cannons, lasers, extravagant lighting and a big sound system, so it’s a great student night in Newcastle for those who really love to party. Entry starts at just £7 before midnight and there’s often exclusive deals on the club’s Facebook page.
