The Role of the Union

Conveniently located on the university campus on Mile End Road, the Queen Mary student union (QMSU) is a democratic membership organisation that represents all Queen Mary students. It works to ensure students’ voices and opinions are heard via student representatives and to improve the overall student experience. As well as ample sports, societies and clubs students can enjoy, there’s a multitude of facilities including social spaces, a multi-faith centre, several shops, a student media suite and sports and fitness centres available. The student union is your go-to for any issue you may be having such as financial, academic or personal and are looking for guidance and support.

Groups & Societies at QMSU

QMSU has over 300 groups and societies that students can enjoy, as well as the opportunity to set up their own. Joining a group or society at Queen Mary university is a great way to get out of your comfort zone and meet new and like-minded people, or to try something completely new. You can explore the full range of groups ranging from academic to artsy, or wellbeing to water polo. Sports at QMSU

With everything from American football to volleyball, at Queen Mary there are over 60 sports clubs to choose from and one for every ability and interest. If you prefer to play non-competitively, the university also offers social leagues for students to play football, netball, basketball and cricket. Queen Mary also hosts Campus games where students and staff are free to show up and participate in sports-day-type events that feature different, fun games including tug of war and Park Run.
