Walk or cycle
There are plenty of walking routes for you to explore in and around Derby. The city centre is within easy reach, especially from our student accommodation in Derby. There are also numerous paths leading to countryside and green spaces outside of the city. Since the city is so flat and compact, it’s ideal to explore through its many cycle routes, and all of Derby’s parks and green spaces are bike accessible.
The bus
The city has modern, affordable and reliable bus services that go to every suburb every 10 minutes or so. Day trippers
Derby is very fortunate to be well placed to get to the Peak District, where you can enjoy over 250 miles of glorious green space and your choice of over 50 reservoirs to explore. Cycling around the city is one of many fun and free things to do in Derby, and one of the best cycle routes to take cuts straight through the city centre along the banks of the River Derwent. You’ll also pass the famous Derby Silk Mill, one of only a handful of World Heritage sites in the UK and home of the city’s Museum of Making. Just outside the city are the stunning stately homes Elvaston Castle, Calke Abbey and Kedleston Hall.
